Surah Al Alaq With English Translations

اِقْرَاْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِیْ خَلَقَ(1)

Read! In the Name of your Lord Who has created. (1)

خَلَقَ الْاِنْسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ(2)

Has created man from a clot. (2)

اِقْرَاْ وَ رَبُّكَ الْاَكْرَمُ(3)

Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, (3)

الَّذِیْ عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ(4)

Who has taught by the pen. (4)

عَلَّمَ الْاِنْسَانَ مَا لَمْ یَعْلَمْﭤ(5)

Has taught man that which he knew not. (5)

كَلَّاۤ اِنَّ الْاِنْسَانَ لَیَطْغٰۤى(6)

Nay! Verily, man transgresses [all bounds], (6)

اَنْ رَّاٰهُ اسْتَغْنٰىﭤ(7)

Because he sees himself self-sufficient. (7)

اِنَّ اِلٰى رَبِّكَ الرُّجْعٰىﭤ(8)

Surely, to your Lord is the return. (8)

اَرَءَیْتَ الَّذِیْ یَنْهٰى(9)

Have you seen him who forbids (9)

عَبْدًا اِذَا صَلّٰىﭤ(10)

A servant [of Allah] when he prays? (10)

اَرَءَیْتَ اِنْ كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدٰۤى(11)

Have you seen if he is on [the right] guidance (11)

اَوْ اَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوٰىﭤ(12)

Or enjoins piety? (12)

اَرَءَیْتَ اِنْ كَذَّبَ وَ تَوَلّٰىﭤ(13)

Have you seen if he denies and turns away? (13)

اَلَمْ یَعْلَمْ بِاَنَّ اللّٰهَ یَرٰىﭤ(14)

Does he not know that Allah sees? (14)

كَلَّا لَىٕنْ لَّمْ یَنْتَهِ ﳔ لَنَسْفَعًۢا بِالنَّاصِیَةِ(15)

Nay! If he ceases not, We will surely seize him by the forelock - (15)

نَاصِیَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ(16)

A lying, sinning forelock! (16)

فَلْیَدْعُ نَادِیَهٗ(17)

Then let him call his associates; (17)

سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِیَةَ(18)

We will call the angels of Hell. (18)

كَلَّاؕ-لَا تُطِعْهُ وَ اسْجُدْ وَ اقْتَرِبْ(19)

Nay! Obey him not, but prostrate yourself and draw near [to Allah]. (19)
