Surah Al Fajr With English Translations

وَ الْفَجْرِ(1)

By the dawn (1)

وَ لَیَالٍ عَشْرٍ(2)

And [by] the ten nights (2)

وَّ الشَّفْعِ وَ الْوَتْرِ(3)

And [by] the even and the odd (3)

وَ الَّیْلِ اِذَا یَسْرِ(4)

And [by] the night when it passes. (4)

هَلْ فِیْ ذٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِّذِیْ حِجْرٍﭤ(5)

Is there in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of intelligence? (5)

اَلَمْ تَرَ كَیْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ(6)

Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - (6)

اِرَمَ ذَاتِ الْعِمَادِ(7)

[The people of] Iram - those of the lofty pillars, (7)

الَّتِیْ لَمْ یُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِی الْبِلَادِ(8)

The like of whom had never been created in the land? (8)

وَ ثَمُوْدَ الَّذِیْنَ جَابُوا الصَّخْرَ بِالْوَادِ(9)

And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? (9)

وَ فِرْعَوْنَ ذِی الْاَوْتَادِ(10)

And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes - (10)

الَّذِیْنَ طَغَوْا فِی الْبِلَادِ(11)

Who transgressed within the lands (11)

فَاَكْثَرُوْا فِیْهَا الْفَسَادَ(12)

And increased therein corruption? (12)

فَصَبَّ عَلَیْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ(13)

So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. (13)

اِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِالْمِرْصَادِﭤ(14)

Indeed, your Lord is in observation. (14)

فَاَمَّا الْاِنْسَانُ اِذَا مَا ابْتَلٰىهُ رَبُّهٗ فَاَكْرَمَهٗ وَ نَعَّمَهٗ ﳔ فَیَقُوْلُ رَبِّیْۤ اَكْرَمَنِﭤ(15)

And as for man, when his Lord tests him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." (15)

وَ اَمَّاۤ اِذَا مَا ابْتَلٰىهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَیْهِ رِزْقَهٗ ﳔ فَیَقُوْلُ رَبِّیْۤ اَهَانَنِ(16)

But when He tests him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." (16)

كَلَّا بَلْ لَّا تُكْرِمُوْنَ الْیَتِیْمَ(17)

No! But you do not honor the orphan, (17)

وَ لَا تَحٰٓضُّوْنَ عَلٰى طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِیْنِ(18)

And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. (18)

وَ تَاْكُلُوْنَ التُّرَاثَ اَكْلًا لَّمًّا(19)

And you consume inheritance, all at once, (19)

وَّ تُحِبُّوْنَ الْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّاﭤ(20)

And you love wealth with immense love. (20)

كَلَّاۤ اِذَا دُكَّتِ الْاَرْضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا(21)

No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and pounded - (21)

وَّ جَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَ الْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا(22)

And your Lord has come with the angels, rank upon rank, (22)

وَ جِایْٓءَ یَوْمَىٕذٍۭ بِجَهَنَّمَ ﳔ یَوْمَىٕذٍ یَّتَذَكَّرُ الْاِنْسَانُ وَ اَنّٰى لَهُ الذِّكْرٰىﭤ(23)

And Hell is brought forth that Day - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? (23)

یَقُوْلُ یٰلَیْتَنِیْ قَدَّمْتُ لِحَیَاتِیْ(24)

He will say, "Oh, I wish I had forwarded [good deeds] for my life." (24)

فَیَوْمَىٕذٍ لَّا یُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهٗۤ اَحَدٌ(25)

So that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, (25)

وَّ لَا یُوْثِقُ وَ ثَاقَهٗۤ اَحَدٌﭤ(26)

And none will bind [as severely] as His binding. (26)

یٰۤاَیَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَىٕنَّةُ(27)

[To the righteous it will be said], "O tranquil soul, (27)

ارْجِعِیْۤ اِلٰى رَبِّكِ رَاضِیَةً مَّرْضِیَّةً(28)

Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him]. (28)

فَادْخُلِیْ فِیْ عِبٰدِیْ(29)

And enter among My [righteous] servants. (29)

وَ ادْخُلِیْ جَنَّتِیْ(30)

And enter My Paradise." (30)
