Surah Al Waqiah With English Translations

اِذَا وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُ(1)

When the Occurrence occurs, (1)

لَیْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ(2)

There will be of its occurrence no denial. (2)

خَافِضَةٌ رَّافِعَةٌ(3)

Lowering [some], raising [others]. (3)

اِذَا رُجَّتِ الْاَرْضُ رَجًّا(4)

When the earth is shaken with convulsion (4)

وَّ بُسَّتِ الْجِبَالُ بَسًّا(5)

And the mountains are broken into crumbled dust (5)

فَكَانَتْ هَبَآءً مُّنْۢبَثًّا(6)

So they become dispersed dust. (6)

وَّ كُنْتُمْ اَزْوَاجًا ثَلٰثَةًﭤ(7)

And you become [of] three kinds: (7)

فَاَصْحٰبُ الْمَیْمَنَةِ ﳔ مَاۤ اَصْحٰبُ الْمَیْمَنَةِﭤ(8)

Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? (8)

وَ اَصْحٰبُ الْمَشْــٴَـمَةِ ﳔ مَاۤ اَصْحٰبُ الْمَشْــٴَـمَةِﭤ(9)

And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? (9)

وَ السّٰبِقُوْنَ السّٰبِقُوْنَ(10)

And the forerunners, the forerunners - (10)

اُولٰٓىٕكَ الْمُقَرَّبُوْنَ(11)

Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] (11)

فِیْ جَنّٰتِ النَّعِیْمِ(12)

In the Gardens of Pleasure, (12)

ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْاَوَّلِیْنَ(13)

A multitude from the first [generations] (13)

وَ قَلِیْلٌ مِّنَ الْاٰخِرِیْنَﭤ(14)

And a few from the later ones. (14)

عَلٰى سُرُرٍ مَّوْضُوْنَةٍ(15)

On thrones woven [with gold], (15)

مُّتَّكِـٕیْنَ عَلَیْهَا مُتَقٰبِلِیْنَ(16)

Reclining thereon, facing one another. (16)

یَطُوْفُ عَلَیْهِمْ وِلْدَانٌ مُّخَلَّدُوْنَ(17)

There will circulate among them young boys made eternal (17)

بِاَكْوَابٍ وَّ اَبَارِیْقَ ﳔ وَ كَاْسٍ مِّنْ مَّعِیْنٍ(18)

With cups and pitchers and a glass [of wine] from a flowing source - (18)

لَّا یُصَدَّعُوْنَ عَنْهَا وَ لَا یُنْزِفُوْنَ(19)

No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - (19)

وَ فَاكِهَةٍ مِّمَّا یَتَخَیَّرُوْنَ(20)

And fruit of what they select (20)

وَ لَحْمِ طَیْرٍ مِّمَّا یَشْتَهُوْنَﭤ(21)

And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. (21)

وَ حُوْرٌ عِیْنٌ(22)

And [with them will be] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, (22)

كَاَمْثَالِ اللُّؤْلُوَٴ الْمَكْنُوْنِ(23)

Like pearls well-protected. (23)

جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوْا یَعْمَلُوْنَ(24)

As reward for what they used to do. (24)

لَا یَسْمَعُوْنَ فِیْهَا لَغْوًا وَّ لَا تَاْثِیْمًا(25)

They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - (25)

اِلَّا قِیْلًا سَلٰمًا سَلٰمًا(26)

Only the saying, "Peace, peace." (26)

وَ اَصْحٰبُ الْیَمِیْنِ ﳔ مَاۤ اَصْحٰبُ الْیَمِیْنِﭤ(27)

And the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? (27)

فِیْ سِدْرٍ مَّخْضُوْدٍ(28)

[They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed (28)

وَّ طَلْحٍ مَّنْضُوْدٍ(29)

And banana trees layered [with fruit] (29)

وَّ ظِلٍّ مِّمْدُوْدٍ(30)

And shade extended, (30)

وَّ مَآءٍ مَّسْكُوْبٍ(31)

And water poured forth, (31)

وَّ فَاكِهَةٍ كَثِیْرَةٍ(32)

And abundant fruit, (32)

لَّا مَقْطُوْعَةٍ وَّ لَا مَمْنُوْعَةٍ(33)

(Neither limited [by season] nor forbidden), (33)

وَّ فُرُشٍ مَّرْفُوْعَةٍﭤ(34)

And elevated beds. (34)

اِنَّاۤ اَنْشَاْنٰهُنَّ اِنْشَآءً(35)

Indeed, We have produced them [maidens] in a [new] creation (35)

فَجَعَلْنٰهُنَّ اَبْكَارًا(36)

And made them virgins, (36)

عُرُبًا اَتْرَابًا(37)

Loving [their husbands] and of equal age, (37)

لِّاَصْحٰبِ الْیَمِیْنِ(38)

For the companions of the right [hand]; (38)

ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْاَوَّلِیْنَ(39)

A multitude from the first [generations] (39)

وَ ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْاٰخِرِیْنَﭤ(40)

And a multitude from the later ones. (40)

وَ اَصْحٰبُ الشِّمَالِ ﳔ مَاۤ اَصْحٰبُ الشِّمَالِﭤ(41)

And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? (41)

فِیْ سَمُوْمٍ وَّ حَمِیْمٍ(42)

[They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water (42)

وَّ ظِلٍّ مِّنْ یَّحْمُوْمٍ(43)

And shade of black smoke, (43)

لَّا بَارِدٍ وَّ لَا كَرِیْمٍ(44)

Neither cool nor beneficial. (44)

اِنَّهُمْ كَانُوْا قَبْلَ ذٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِیْنَ(45)

Indeed, they were before that living in ease, (45)

وَ كَانُوْا یُصِرُّوْنَ عَلَى الْحِنْثِ الْعَظِیْمِ(46)

And they used to persist in the great sin, (46)

وَ كَانُوْا یَقُوْلُوْنَ ﳔ اَىٕذَا مِتْنَا وَ كُنَّا تُرَابًا وَّ عِظَامًا ءَاِنَّا لَمَبْعُوْثُوْنَ(47)

And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, will we indeed be resurrected? (47)

اَوَ اٰبَآؤُنَا الْاَوَّلُوْنَ(48)

Or our forefathers?" (48)

قُلْ اِنَّ الْاَوَّلِیْنَ وَ الْاٰخِرِیْنَ(49)

Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the latter ones (49)

لَمَجْمُوْعُوْنَ ﳔ اِلٰى مِیْقَاتِ یَوْمٍ مَّعْلُوْمٍ(50)

Will be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day. (50)

ثُمَّ اِنَّكُمْ اَیُّهَا الضَّآلُّوْنَ الْمُكَذِّبُوْنَ(51)

Then indeed you, O those who stray and deny, (51)

لَاٰكِلُوْنَ مِنْ شَجَرٍ مِّنْ زَقُّوْمٍ(52)

Will be eating from trees of Zaqqum (52)

فَمَالِــٴُـوْنَ مِنْهَا الْبُطُوْنَ(53)

And filling with it their bellies, (53)

فَشٰرِبُوْنَ عَلَیْهِ مِنَ الْحَمِیْمِ(54)

And drinking on top of it from scalding water, (54)

فَشٰرِبُوْنَ شُرْبَ الْهِیْمِﭤ(55)

Drinking as the thirsty camels drink. (55)

هٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ یَوْمَ الدِّیْنِﭤ(56)

That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. (56)

نَحْنُ خَلَقْنٰكُمْ فَلَوْ لَا تُصَدِّقُوْنَ(57)

We have created you, so why do you not believe? (57)

اَفَرَءَیْتُمْ مَّا تُمْنُوْنَﭤ(58)

Have you seen that which you emit? (58)

ءَاَنْتُمْ تَخْلُقُوْنَهٗۤ اَمْ نَحْنُ الْخٰلِقُوْنَ(59)

Is it you who create it, or are We the creator? (59)

نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَیْنَكُمُ الْمَوْتَ وَ مَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوْقِیْنَ(60)

We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone (60)

عَلٰۤى اَنْ نُّبَدِّلَ اَمْثَالَكُمْ وَ نُنْشِئَكُمْ فِیْ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُوْنَ(61)

In [Our] changing of your forms and in Our producing you in that [form] which you do not know. (61)

وَ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ النَّشْاَةَ الْاُوْلٰى فَلَوْ لَا تَذَكَّرُوْنَ(62)

And you have already known the first creation, so why do you not remember? (62)

اَفَرَءَیْتُمْ مَّا تَحْرُثُوْنَﭤ(63)

Have you seen what you sow? (63)

ءَاَنْتُمْ تَزْرَعُوْنَهٗۤ اَمْ نَحْنُ الزّٰرِعُوْنَ(64)

Is it you who cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? (64)

لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلْنٰهُ حُطَامًا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُوْنَ(65)

If We willed, We could have made it [dry] straw, and you would remain in astonishment, (65)

اِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُوْنَ(66)

[Saying], "Indeed, we are indebted; (66)

بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُوْمُوْنَ(67)

Rather, we have been deprived." (67)

اَفَرَءَیْتُمُ الْمَآءَ الَّذِیْ تَشْرَبُوْنَﭤ(68)

Have you seen the water that you drink? (68)

ءَاَنْتُمْ اَنْزَلْتُمُوْهُ مِنَ الْمُزْنِ اَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنْزِلُوْنَ(69)

Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? (69)

لَوْ نَشَآءُ جَعَلْنٰهُ اُجَاجًا فَلَوْ لَا تَشْكُرُوْنَ(70)

If We willed, We could have made it bitter; so why are you not grateful? (70)

اَفَرَءَیْتُمُ النَّارَ الَّتِیْ تُوْرُوْنَﭤ(71)

Have you seen the fire that you ignite? (71)

ءَاَنْتُمْ اَنْشَاْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَاۤ اَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنْشِــٴُـوْنَ(72)

Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producers? (72)

نَحْنُ جَعَلْنٰهَا تَذْكِرَةً وَّ مَتَاعًا لِّلْمُقْوِیْنَ(73)

We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers. (73)

فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِیْمِ(74)

So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. (74)

فَلَاۤ اُقْسِمُ بِمَوٰقِعِ النُّجُوْمِ(75)

Then I swear by the setting places of the stars, (75)

وَ اِنَّهٗ لَقَسَمٌ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُوْنَ عَظِیْمٌ(76)

And indeed, it is a great oath, if you only knew. (76)

اِنَّهٗ لَقُرْاٰنٌ كَرِیْمٌ(77)

Indeed, it is a noble Qur'an (77)

فِیْ كِتٰبٍ مَّكْنُوْنٍ(78)

In a Register well-protected; (78)

لَّا یَمَسُّهٗۤ اِلَّا الْمُطَهَّرُوْنَﭤ(79)

None touch it except the purified. (79)

تَنْزِیْلٌ مِّنْ رَّبِّ الْعٰلَمِیْنَ(80)

A revelation from the Lord of the worlds. (80)

اَفَبِهٰذَا الْحَدِیْثِ اَنْتُمْ مُّدْهِنُوْنَ(81)

Then is it this statement that you scorn? (81)

وَ تَجْعَلُوْنَ رِزْقَكُمْ اَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُوْنَ(82)

And make [the denial] of His provision your [means of] thanks? (82)

فَلَوْ لَاۤ اِذَا بَلَغَتِ الْحُلْقُوْمَ(83)

Then why not [intervene] when [the soul] reaches the throat (83)

وَ اَنْتُمْ حِیْنَىٕذٍ تَنْظُرُوْنَ(84)

While you are at that time looking on - (84)

وَ نَحْنُ اَقْرَبُ اِلَیْهِ مِنْكُمْ وَ لٰـكِنْ لَّا تُبْصِرُوْنَ(85)

And We are nearer to him than you, but you do not see - (85)

فَلَوْ لَاۤ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ غَیْرَ مَدِیْنِیْنَ(86)

Then why - if you are not to be recompensed - (86)

تَرْجِعُوْنَهَاۤ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ صٰدِقِیْنَ(87)

Do you not return it [to the body], if you should be truthful? (87)

فَاَمَّاۤ اِنْ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِیْنَ(88)

And if he was of those brought near [to Allah], (88)

فَرَوْحٌ وَّ رَیْحَانٌ ﳔ وَّ جَنَّتُ نَعِیْمٍ(89)

Then [for him is] rest and bounty and a garden of pleasure. (89)

وَ اَمَّاۤ اِنْ كَانَ مِنْ اَصْحٰبِ الْیَمِیْنِ(90)

But if he was of the companions of the right, (90)

فَسَلٰمٌ لَّكَ مِنْ اَصْحٰبِ الْیَمِیْنِﭤ(91)

Then [the angels will say], "Peace be upon you from the companions of the right." (91)

وَ اَمَّاۤ اِنْ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُكَذِّبِیْنَ الضَّآلِّیْنَ(92)

But if he was of the deniers, the misguided, (92)

فَنُزُلٌ مِّنْ حَمِیْمٍ(93)

Then [for him is] accommodation of scalding water (93)

وَّ تَصْلِیَةُ جَحِیْمٍ(94)

And burning in Hellfire. (94)

اِنَّ هٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ الْیَقِیْنِ(95)

Indeed, this is the true certainty. (95)

فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِیْمِ(96)

So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. (96)
