Surah At Takwir With English Translations

اِذَا الشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ(1)

When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness] (1)

وَ اِذَا النُّجُوْمُ انْكَدَرَتْ(2)

And when the stars fall, dispersing, (2)

وَ اِذَا الْجِبَالُ سُیِّرَتْ(3)

And when the mountains are moved, (3)

وَ اِذَا الْعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتْ(4)

And when full-term pregnant camels are neglected, (4)

وَ اِذَا الْوُحُوْشُ حُشِرَتْ(5)

And when the wild beasts are gathered, (5)

وَ اِذَا الْبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتْ(6)

And when the seas are filled [with fire], (6)

وَ اِذَا النُّفُوْسُ زُوِّجَتْ(7)

And when the souls are paired [with bodies], (7)

وَ اِذَا الْمَوْءٗدَةُ سُىٕلَتْ(8)

And when the girl [buried] alive is asked (8)

بِاَیِّ ذَنْۢبٍ قُتِلَتْ(9)

For what sin she was killed; (9)

وَ اِذَا الصُّحُفُ نُشِرَتْ(10)

And when the pages [of deeds] are spread abroad, (10)

وَ اِذَا السَّمَآءُ كُشِطَتْ(11)

And when the sky is stripped away, (11)

وَ اِذَا الْجَحِیْمُ سُعِّرَتْ(12)

And when Hellfire is kindled, (12)

وَ اِذَا الْجَنَّةُ اُزْلِفَتْ(13)

And when Paradise is brought near, (13)

عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَّاۤ اَحْضَرَتْﭤ(14)

A soul will [then] know what it has brought [of good or evil]. (14)

فَلَاۤ اُقْسِمُ بِالْخُنَّسِ(15)

So I do not swear by the retreating stars - (15)

الْجَوَارِ الْكُنَّسِ(16)

The moving [ones that] disappear - (16)

وَ الَّیْلِ اِذَا عَسْعَسَ(17)

And by the night when it closes in (17)

وَ الصُّبْحِ اِذَا تَنَفَّسَ(18)

And by the dawn when it breathes, (18)

اِنَّهٗ لَقَوْلُ رَسُوْلٍ كَرِیْمٍ(19)

Indeed, this [Qur'an] is the word [conveyed by] a noble messenger (19)

ذِیْ قُوَّةٍ عِنْدَ ذِی الْعَرْشِ مَكِیْنٍ(20)

Endued with power, with Allah, Owner of the Throne, secure [in position], (20)

مُّطَاعٍ ثَمَّ اَمِیْنٍﭤ(21)

Obeyed there [in the heavens] and trustworthy. (21)

وَ مَا صَاحِبُكُمْ بِمَجْنُوْنٍ(22)

And your companion [Muhammad] is not mad. (22)

وَ لَقَدْ رَاٰهُ بِالْاُفُقِ الْمُبِیْنِ(23)

And he has already seen him [Gabriel] on the clear horizon. (23)

وَ مَا هُوَ عَلَى الْغَیْبِ بِضَنِیْنٍ(24)

And he is not withholding [information of] the unseen. (24)

وَ مَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَیْطٰنٍ رَّجِیْمٍ(25)

And it is not the word of a devil, expelled [from Paradise]. (25)

فَاَیْنَ تَذْهَبُوْنَﭤ(26)

So where are you going? (26)

اِنْ هُوَ اِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعٰلَمِیْنَ(27)

It is not except a reminder for the worlds - (27)

لِمَنْ شَآءَ مِنْكُمْ اَنْ یَّسْتَقِیْمَﭤ(28)

For whoever wills among you to take a right course. (28)

وَ مَا تَشَآءُوْنَ اِلَّاۤ اَنْ یَّشَآءَ اللّٰهُ رَبُّ الْعٰلَمِیْنَ(29)

And you do not will except that Allah wills - Lord of the worlds. (29)
