Surah Ya-Sin With English Translations

(1) یٰسٓ

Ya Seen. (1)

(2) وَ ٱلْقُرْاٰنِ ٱلْحَكِیْمِ

By the wise Qur'an, (2)

(3) اِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِیْنَ

Indeed you, [O Muhammad], are among the messengers (3)

(4) عَلٰى صِرَاطٍ مُّسْتَقِیْمٍ

On a straight path. (4)

(5) تَنْزِیْلَ ٱلْعَزِیْزِ ٱلرَّحِیْمِ

[This is] a revelation of the Exalted in Might, the Merciful, (5)

(6) لِتُنْذِرَ قَوْمًا مَّآ اُنْذِرَ اٰبَآؤُهُمْ فَهُمْ غٰفِلُوْنَ

That you may warn a people whose forefathers were not warned, so they are unaware. (6)

(7) لَقَدْ حَقَّ ٱلْقَوْلُ عَلٰۤى اَكْثَرِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا یُؤْمِنُوْنَ

Already the word has come into effect upon most of them, so they do not believe. (7)

(8) اِنَّا جَعَلْنَا فِیْۤ اَعْنَاقِهِمْ اَغْلٰلًا فَهِیَ اِلَى ٱلْاَذْقَانِ فَهُمْ مُّقْمَحُوْنَ

Indeed, We have put shackles around their necks, and they are to their chins, so they are with heads raised [and immobilized]. (8)

(9) وَ جَعَلْنَا مِنْۢ بَیْنِ اَیْدِیْهِمْ سَدًّا وَّ مِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ سَدًّا فَاَغْشَیْنٰهُمْ فَهُمْ لَا یُبْصِرُوْنَ

And We have put before them a barrier and behind them a barrier and covered them, so they do not see. (9)

(10) وَ سَوَآءٌ عَلَیْهِمْ ءَاَنْذَرْتَهُمْ اَمْ لَمْ تُنْذِرْهُمْ لَا یُؤْمِنُوْنَ

And it is all the same for them whether you warn them or do not warn them - they will not believe. (10)

(11) اِنَّمَا تُنْذِرُ مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَ ٱلذِّكْرَ وَ خَشِیَ ٱلرَّحْمٰنَ بِٱلْغَیْبِ فَبَشِّرْهُ بِمَّغْفِرَةٍ وَّ اَجْرٍ كَرِیْمٍ

You can only warn those who follow the message and fear the Most Merciful unseen. So give them good tidings of forgiveness and noble reward. (11)

(12) اِنَّا نَحْنُ نُحْیِ ٱلْمَوْتٰى وَ نَكْتُبُ مَا قَدَّمُوْا وَ اٰثَارَهُمْ وَ كُلَّ شَیْءٍ اَحْصَیْنٰهُ فِیْۤ اِمَامٍ مُّبِیْنٍ

Indeed, it is We who bring the dead to life and record what they have put forth and what they have left behind, and all things We have enumerated in a clear register. (12)

(13) وَ ٱضْرِبْ لَهُمْ مَّثَلًا اَصْحٰبَ ٱلْقَرْیَةِ اِذْ جَآءَهَا ٱلْمُرْسَلُوْنَ

And present to them an example: the people of the city, when the messengers came to it - (13)

(14) اِذْ اَرْسَلْنَآ اِلَیْهِمُ ٱثْنَیْنِ فَكَذَّبُوْهُمَا فَعَزَّزْنَا بِثَالِثٍ فَقَالُوْۤا اِنَّآ اِلَیْكُمْ مُّرْسَلُوْنَ

When We sent to them two messengers, but they denied them; so We strengthened them with a third, and they said, "Indeed, we are messengers to you." (14)

(15) قَالُوْا مَآ اَنْتُمْ اِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُنَا وَ مَآ اَنْزَلَ ٱلرَّحْمٰنُ مِنْ شَیْءٍ اِنْ اَنْتُمْ اِلَّا تَكْذِبُوْنَ

They said, "You are not but human beings like us, and the Most Merciful has not revealed anything. You are only telling lies." (15)

(16) قَالُوْا رَبُّنَا یَعْلَمُ اِنَّآ اِلَیْكُمْ لَمُرْسَلُوْنَ

The messengers said, "Our Lord knows that indeed we are messengers to you. (16)

(17) وَ مَا عَلَیْنَآ اِلَّا ٱلْبَلٰغُ ٱلْمُبِیْنُ

And our duty is only clear conveyance [of the message]." (17)

(18) قَالُوْۤا اِنَّا تَطَیَّرْنَا بِكُمْ لَىٕنْ لَّمْ تَنْتَهُوْا لَنَرْجُمَنَّكُمْ وَ لَیَمَسَّنَّكُمْ مِّنَّا عَذَابٌ اَلِیْمٌ

They said, "Indeed, we consider you a bad omen. If you do not desist, we will surely stone you, and there will surely touch you from us a painful punishment." (18)

(19) قَالُوْا طَآىٕرُكُمْ مَّعَكُمْ اَىٕنْ ذُكِّرْتُمْ بَلْ اَنْتُمْ قَوْمٌ مُّسْرِفُوْنَ

The messengers said, "Your omen is with yourselves. Is it because you were reminded? Rather, you are a transgressing people." (19)

(20) وَ جَآءَ مِنْ اَقْصَا ٱلْمَدِیْنَةِ رَجُلٌ یَّسْعٰى قَالَ یٰقَوْمِ ٱتَّبِعُوا ٱلْمُرْسَلِیْنَ

And there came from the farthest part of the city a man, running. He said, "O my people, follow the messengers. (20)

(21) ٱتَّبِعُوْا مَنْ لَّا یَسْــَٔلُكُمْ اَجْرًا وَّ هُمْ مُّهْتَدُوْنَ

Follow those who do not ask of you [any] payment, and they are [rightly] guided. (21)

(22) وَ مَا لِیَ لَآ اَعْبُدُ ٱلَّذِیْ فَطَرَنِیْ وَ اِلَیْهِ تُرْجَعُوْنَ

And why should I not worship the one who created me and to whom you will be returned? (22)

(23) ءَ اَتَّخِذُ مِنْ دُوْنِهٖۤ اٰلِهَةً اِنْ یُّرِدْنِ ٱلرَّحْمٰنُ بِضُرٍّ لَّا تُغْنِ عَنِّیْ شَفَاعَتُهُمْ شَیْــٴًـا وَّ لَا یُنْقِذُوْنِ

Should I take besides Him gods? If the Most Merciful intends for me harm, their intercession will not avail me anything, nor can they save me. (23)

(24) اِنِّیْۤ اِذًا لَّفِیْ ضَلٰلٍ مُّبِیْنٍ

Indeed, I would then be in clear error. (24)

(25) اِنِّیْۤ اٰمَنْتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ فَٱسْمَعُوْنِ

Indeed, I have believed in your Lord, so listen to me." (25)

(26) قِیْلَ ٱدْخُلِ ٱلْجَنَّةَ قَالَ یٰلَیْتَ قَوْمِیْ یَعْلَمُوْنَ

It was said, "Enter Paradise." He said, "Oh, that my people knew (26)

(27) بِمَا غَفَرَ لِیْ رَبِّیْ وَ جَعَلَنِیْ مِنَ ٱلْمُكْرَمِیْنَ

(27) For what my Lord has forgiven me and placed me among the honored." (27)

(28) وَ مَاۤ اَنْزَلْنَا عَلٰى قَوْمِهٖ مِنْۢ بَعْدِهٖ مِنْ جُنْدٍ مِّنَ السَّمَآءِ وَ مَا كُنَّا مُنْزِلِیْنَ

And We did not send down upon his people after him any soldiers from the heaven, nor were We to send down [any]. (28)

(29) اِنْ كَانَتْ اِلَّا صَیْحَةً وَّاحِدَةً فَاِذَا هُمْ خٰمِدُوْنَ

It was not but one cry, and immediately they were extinguished. (29)

(30) یٰحَسْرَةً عَلَى ٱلْعِبَادِ مَا یَاْتِیْهِمْ مِّنْ رَّسُوْلٍ اِلَّا كَانُوْا بِهٖ یَسْتَهْزِءُوْنَ

Oh, [how great is] the regret upon the servants. There did not come to them any messenger except that they used to ridicule him. (30)

(31) اَلَمْ یَرَوْا كَمْ اَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُمْ مِّنَ ٱلْقُرُوْنِ اَنَّهُمْ اِلَیْهِمْ لَا یَرْجِعُوْنَ

Have they not seen how many generations We destroyed before them? Indeed, they will not return to them. (31)

(32) وَ اِنْ كُلٌّ لَّمَّا جَمِیْعٌ لَّدَیْنَا مُحْضَرُوْنَ

And there is no one but that all of them will be brought present before Us. (32)

(33) وَ اٰیَةٌ لَّهُمُ ٱلْاَرْضُ ٱلْمَیْتَةُ اَحْیَیْنٰهَا وَ اَخْرَجْنَا مِنْهَا حَبًّا فَمِنْهُ یَاْكُلُوْنَ

And a sign for them is the dead earth; We have brought it to life and brought forth from it grain, and from it they eat. (33)

(34) وَ جَعَلْنَا فِیْهَا جَنّٰتٍ مِّنْ نَّخِیْلٍ وَّ اَعْنَابٍ وَّ فَجَّرْنَا فِیْهَا مِنَ ٱلْعُیُوْنِ

And We have placed therein gardens of palm trees and grapevines and caused to burst forth therein springs (34)

(35) لِیَاْكُلُوْا مِنْ ثَمَرِهٖ وَ مَا عَمِلَتْهُ اَیْدِیْهِمْ اَفَلَا یَشْكُرُوْنَ

That they may eat of its fruit, and their hands did not make it. So will they not be grateful? (35)

(36) سُبْحٰنَ ٱلَّذِیْ خَلَقَ ٱلْاَزْوَاجَ كُلَّهَا مِمَّا تُنْۢبِتُ ٱلْاَرْضُ وَ مِنْ اَنْفُسِهِمْ وَ مِمَّا لَا یَعْلَمُوْنَ

Exalted is He who created all pairs - from what the earth grows and from themselves and from that which they do not know. (36)

(37) وَ اٰیَةٌ لَّهُمُ ٱلَّیْلُ نَسْلَخُ مِنْهُ ٱلنَّهَارَ فَاِذَا هُمْ مُّظْلِمُوْنَ

And a sign for them is the night; We remove from it the day, and immediately they are in darkness. (37)

(38) وَ ٱلشَّمْسُ تَجْرِیْ لِمُسْتَقَرٍّ لَّهَا ذٰلِكَ تَقْدِیْرُ ٱلْعَزِیْزِ ٱلْعَلِیْمِ

And the sun runs [on course] toward its stopping point. That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing. (38)

(39) وَ ٱلْقَمَرَ قَدَّرْنٰهُ مَنَازِلَ حَتّٰى عَادَ كَٱلْعُرْجُوْنِ ٱلْقَدِیْمِ

And the moon - We have determined for it phases, until it returns [appearing] like the old date stalk. (39)

(40) لَا ٱلشَّمْسُ یَنْۢبَغِیْ لَهَآ اَنْ تُدْرِكَ ٱلْقَمَرَ وَ لَا ٱلَّیْلُ سَابِقُ ٱلنَّهَارِ وَ كُلٌّ فِیْ فَلَكٍ یَّسْبَحُوْنَ

It is not allowable for the sun to overtake the moon, nor for the night to outstrip the day. And each is swimming in an orbit. (40)

(41) وَ اٰیَةٌ لَّهُمْ اَنَّا حَمَلْنَا ذُرِّیَّتَهُمْ فِی ٱلْفُلْكِ ٱلْمَشْحُوْنِ

And a sign for them is that We carried their forefathers in the loaded ship. (41)

(42) وَ خَلَقْنَا لَهُمْ مِّنْ مِّثْلِهٖ مَا یَرْكَبُوْنَ

And We created for them from the like of it that which they ride. (42)

(43) وَ اِنْ نَّشَاْ نُغْرِقْهُمْ فَلَا صَرِیْخَ لَهُمْ وَ لَا هُمْ یُنْقَذُوْنَ

And if We will, We can drown them; then no helper would there be for them, nor would they be saved (43)

(44) اِلَّا رَحْمَةً مِّنَّا وَ مَتَاعًا اِلٰى حِیْنٍ

Except as a mercy from Us and for enjoyment until a time. (44)

(45) وَ اِذَا قِیْلَ لَهُمُ ٱتَّقُوْا مَا بَیْنَ اَیْدِیْكُمْ وَ مَا خَلْفَكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُوْنَ

But when it is said to them, "Beware of what is before you and what is behind you, that you may receive mercy," (45)

(46) وَ مَا تَاْتِیْهِمْ مِّنْ اٰیَةٍ مِّنْ اٰیٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ اِلَّا كَانُوْا عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِیْنَ

And no sign comes to them from the signs of their Lord except that they are turning away from it. (46)

(47) وَ اِذَا قِیْلَ لَهُمْ اَنْفِقُوْا مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ ٱللّٰهُ قَالَ ٱلَّذِیْنَ كَفَرُوْا لِلَّذِیْنَ اٰمَنُوْۤا اَنُطْعِمُ مَنْ لَّوْ یَشَآءُ ٱللّٰهُ اَطْعَمَهٗۤ اِنْ اَنْتُمْ اِلَّا فِیْ ضَلٰلٍ مُّبِیْنٍ

And when it is said to them, "Spend from that which Allah has provided for you," those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Should we feed one whom, if Allah had willed, He would have fed? You are not but in clear error." (47)

(48) وَ یَقُوْلُوْنَ مَتٰى هٰذَا ٱلْوَعْدُ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ صٰدِقِیْنَ

And they say, "When will this promise [be fulfilled], if you are truthful?" (48)

(49) مَا یَنْظُرُوْنَ اِلَّا صَیْحَةً وَّاحِدَةً تَاْخُذُهُمْ وَ هُمْ یَخِصِّمُوْنَ

They do not await except one cry which will seize them while they are disputing. (49)

(50) فَلَا یَسْتَطِیْعُوْنَ تَوْصِیَةً وَّ لَآ اِلٰۤى اَهْلِهِمْ یَرْجِعُوْنَ

And they will not be able [even] to make a will, nor will they return to their families. (50)

(51) وَ نُفِخَ فِی ٱلصُّوْرِ فَاِذَا هُمْ مِّنَ ٱلْاَجْدَاثِ اِلٰى رَبِّهِمْ یَنْسِلُوْنَ

And the Horn will be blown, and at once they will be from the graves hastening to their Lord. (51)

(52) قَالُوْا یٰوَیْلَنَا مَنْۢ بَعَثَنَا مِنْ مَّرْقَدِنَا هٰذَا مَا وَعَدَ ٱلرَّحْمٰنُ وَ صَدَقَ ٱلْمُرْسَلُوْنَ

They will say, "O woe to us! Who has raised us from our sleeping place?" [The reply will be], "This is what the Most Merciful had promised, and the messengers told the truth." (52)

(53) اِنْ كَانَتْ اِلَّا صَیْحَةً وَّاحِدَةً فَاِذَا هُمْ جَمِیْعٌ لَّدَیْنَا مُحْضَرُوْنَ

It will not be but one cry, and at once they will be brought present before Us - all of them. (53)

(54) فَٱلْیَوْمَ لَا تُظْلَمُ نَفْسٌ شَیْــٴًـا وَّ لَا تُجْزَوْنَ اِلَّا مَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُوْنَ

So today no soul will be wronged at all, and you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do. (54)

(55) اِنَّ اَصْحٰبَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ ٱلْیَوْمَ فِیْ شُغُلٍ فٰكِهُوْنَ

Indeed the companions of Paradise, that Day, will be amused. (55)

(56) هُمْ وَ اَزْوَاجُهُمْ فِیْ ظِلٰلٍ عَلَى الْاَرَآىٕكِ مُتَّكِــٴُـوْنَ

They and their spouses - in shade, reclining on couches. (56)

(57) لَهُمْ فِیْهَا فَاكِهَةٌ وَّ لَهُمْ مَّا یَدَّعُوْنَ

For them therein is fruit, and for them is whatever they call for. (57)

(58) سَلٰمٌ قَوْلًا مِّنْ رَّبٍّ رَّحِیْمٍ

[And] peace will be [said to them], a word from a merciful Lord. (58)

(59) وَ امْتَازُوا الْیَوْمَ اَیُّهَا الْمُجْرِمُوْنَ

And be separated [this Day], O criminals. (59)

(60) اَلَمْ اَعْهَدْ اِلَیْكُمْ یٰبَنِیْۤ اٰدَمَ اَنْ لَّا تَعْبُدُوا الشَّیْطٰنَ اِنَّهٗ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِیْنٌ

Did I not enjoin upon you, O children of Adam, that you not worship Satan? Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy. (60)

(61) وَّ اَنِ اعْبُدُوْنِیْ هٰذَا صِرَاطٌ مُّسْتَقِیْمٌ

And that you worship Me? That is a straight path. (61)

(62) وَ لَقَدْ اَضَلَّ مِنْكُمْ جِبِلًّا كَثِیْرًا اَفَلَمْ تَكُوْنُوْا تَعْقِلُوْنَ

And he had already led astray from you a great multitude. Then did you not use reason? (62)

(63) هٰذِهٖ جَهَنَّمُ الَّتِیْ كُنْتُمْ تُوْعَدُوْنَ

This is Hell which you were promised. (63)

(64) اِصْلَوْهَا الْیَوْمَ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَكْفُرُوْنَ

Enter it today for what you used to deny. (64)

(65) اَلْیَوْمَ نَخْتِمُ عَلٰۤى اَفْوَاهِهِمْ وَ تُكَلِّمُنَآ اَیْدِیْهِمْ وَ تَشْهَدُ اَرْجُلُهُمْ بِمَا كَانُوْا یَكْسِبُوْنَ

That Day, We will seal over their mouths, and their hands will speak to Us, and their feet will testify about what they used to earn. (65)

(66) وَ لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَطَمَسْنَا عَلٰۤى اَعْیُنِهِمْ فَاسْتَبَقُوا الصِّرَاطَ فَاَنّٰى یُبْصِرُوْنَ

And if We willed, We could have obliterated their eyes, and they would race to [find] the path, but how could they see? (66)

(67) وَ لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَمَسَخْنٰهُمْ عَلٰى مَكَانَتِهِمْ فَمَا اسْتَطَاعُوْا مُضِیًّا وَّ لَا یَرْجِعُوْنَ

And if We willed, We could have deformed them in their [present] place [so] they would not be able to proceed, nor could they return. (67)

(68) وَ مَنْ نُّعَمِّرْهُ نُنَكِّسْهُ فِی الْخَلْقِ اَفَلَا یَعْقِلُوْنَ

And whoever We extend in [age] - We reverse him in creation; so do they not understand? (68)

(69) وَ مَا عَلَّمْنٰهُ الشِّعْرَ وَ مَا یَنْۢبَغِیْ لَهٗ اِنْ هُوَ اِلَّا ذِكْرٌ وَّ قُرْاٰنٌ مُّبِیْنٌ

And We did not teach him poetry, nor is it befitting for him. It is not but a message and a clear Qur'an (69)

(70) لِّیُنْذِرَ مَنْ كَانَ حَیًّا وَّ یَحِقَّ الْقَوْلُ عَلَى الْكٰفِرِیْنَ

That he may warn whoever is living and that the word may be justified against the disbelievers. (70)

(71) اَوَ لَمْ یَرَوْا اَنَّا خَلَقْنَا لَهُمْ مِّمَّا عَمِلَتْ اَیْدِیْنَآ اَنْعَامًا فَهُمْ لَهَا مٰلِكُوْنَ

Do they not see that We have created for them from what Our hands have made - grazing livestock, and they are their owners? (71)

(72) وَ ذَلَّلْنٰهَا لَهُمْ فَمِنْهَا رَكُوْبُهُمْ وَ مِنْهَا یَاْكُلُوْنَ

And We have subjected them to them, so some of them they ride, and some of them they eat. (72)

(73) وَ لَهُمْ فِیْهَا مَنَافِعُ وَ مَشَارِبُ اَفَلَا یَشْكُرُوْنَ

And for them therein are benefits and drinks, so will they not be grateful? (73)

(74) وَ ٱتَّخَذُوْا مِنْ دُوْنِ ٱللّٰهِ اٰلِهَةً لَّعَلَّهُمْ یُنْصَرُوْنَ

But they have taken besides Allah [other] gods, hoping that they would be helped. (74)

(75) لَا یَسْتَطِیْعُوْنَ نَصْرَهُمْ وَ هُمْ لَهُمْ جُنْدٌ مُّحْضَرُوْنَ

They are not able to help them, but they [i.e., the false gods] are for them a host in attendance [at the judgment]. (75)

(76) فَلَا یَحْزُنْكَ قَوْلُهُمْ اِنَّا نَعْلَمُ مَا یُسِرُّوْنَ وَ مَا یُعْلِنُوْنَ

So let not their speech grieve you. Indeed, We know what they conceal and what they declare. (76)

(77) اَوَ لَمْ یَرَ ٱلْاِنْسٰنُ اَنَّا خَلَقْنٰهُ مِنْ نُّطْفَةٍ فَاِذَا هُوَ خَصِیْمٌ مُّبِیْنٌ

Does man not consider that We created him from a sperm-drop - then at once he is a clear adversary? (77)

(78) وَ ضَرَبَ لَنَا مَثَلًا وَّ نَسِیَ خَلْقَهٗ قَالَ مَنْ یُّحْیِ ٱلْعِظٰمَ وَ هِیَ رَمِیْمٌ

And he presents for Us an example and forgets his [own] creation. He says, "Who will give life to bones while they are disintegrated?" (78)

(79) قُلْ یُحْیِیْهَا ٱلَّذِیْۤ اَنْشَاَهَآ اَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ وَّ هُوَ بِكُلِّ خَلْقٍ عَلِیْمُ

Say, "He will give them life who produced them the first time; and He is, of all creation, Knowing." (79)

(80) ٱلَّذِیْ جَعَلَ لَكُمْ مِّنَ ٱلشَّجَرِ ٱلْاَخْضَرِ نَارًا فَاِذَآ اَنْتُمْ مِّنْهُ تُوْقِدُوْنَ

[It is He] who has made for you from the green tree, fire, and then from it you ignite [it]. (80)

(81) اَوَ لَیْسَ ٱلَّذِیْ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمٰوٰتِ وَ ٱلْاَرْضَ بِقٰدِرٍ عَلٰۤى اَنْ یَّخْلُقَ مِثْلَهُمْ بَلٰى وَ هُوَ ٱلْخَلّٰقُ ٱلْعَلِیْمُ

Is not He who created the heavens and the earth able to create the like of them? Yes, [it is so]; and He is the All-Knowing Creator. (81)

(82) اِنَّمَآ اَمْرُهٗۤ اِذَآ اَرَادَ شَیْــٴًـا اَنْ یَّقُوْلَ لَهٗ كُنْ فَیَكُوْنُ

His command is only when He intends a thing that He says to it, "Be," and it is. (82)

(83) فَسُبْحٰنَ ٱلَّذِیْ بِیَدِهٖ مَلَكُوْتُ كُلِّ شَیْءٍ وَّ اِلَیْهِ تُرْجَعُوْنَ

So exalted is He in whose hand is the realm of all things, and to Him you will be returned. (83)
