Darood e Ibrahimi with Arabic, English & Urdu Translation

Darood e Ibrahimi is a very important prayer of Islam. Muslims repeat it daily when they have their five daily prayers. It blesses and sends peace to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) ﷺ. This Darood takes us straight to our beloved Prophet ﷺ and it is so spiritually significant.

Arabic Text of Darood e Ibrahimi

Darwood e Ibrahimi is the Arabic version of a prayer known as Darood e Ibrahimi. This prayer is recited in the last section of the prayer (Tashahhud) that all the Muslims recite around the world.

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ، اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ

This prayer was word by word taught by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It has a special place in our worship because it is direct from him. Every word is a blessing, praise and mercy.

English Translation of Darood e Ibrahimi

To understand the meaning of Darood e Ibrahimi, here is the complete English translation:

“O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious.”

This translation makes us cogitate about the meaning of the Darood. It demonstrates our respect to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and to Prophet Ibrahim ﷺ and his family.

We recall also the dignity that Allah granted to His chosen Prophets. When we repeat this Darood we request Allah to rain that honor on the Prophets – with each prayer.

Urdu Translation of Darood e Ibrahimi

درودِ ابراہیمی کا اردو ترجمہ درج ذیل ہے:

“اے اللّٰہ! محمد (ﷺ) اور آلِ محمد پر رحمت نازل فرما، جس طرح تو نے ابراہیم (علیہ السلام) اور آلِ ابراہیم پر رحمت نازل فرمائی۔ بے شک تو بہت تعریف کیا گیا، بزرگی والا ہے۔
اے اللّٰہ! محمد (ﷺ) اور آلِ محمد کو برکت عطا فرما، جس طرح تو نے ابراہیم (علیہ السلام) اور آلِ ابراہیم کو برکت عطا فرمائی۔ بے شک تو بہت تعریف کیا گیا، بزرگی والا ہے۔”

یہ ترجمہ ہمیں یہ سکھاتا ہے کہ درودِ ابراہیمی صرف ایک دعا نہیں، بلکہ یہ نبی کریم ﷺ سے محبت کا عملی اظہار ہے۔

مزید برآں، جب ہم یہ کلمات دل سے پڑھتے ہیں تو ہمیں اللہ کی طرف سے بے شمار انعامات اور رحمتیں حاصل ہوتی ہیں۔

Transliteration of Darood e Ibrahimi

In case you do not know Arabic, this transliteration of Darood e Ibrahimi will assist you recite it in the right manner. Read it in a clear slow manner and focus on every word.

**Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammadin wa ‘ala aali Muhammad,
kama sallaita ‘ala Ibraheema wa ‘ala aali Ibraheem,
innaka Hameedum Majeed.

Allahumma barik ‘ala Muhammadin wa ‘ala aali Muhammad,
kama barakta ‘ala Ibraheema wa ‘ala aali Ibraheem,
innaka Hameedum Majeed.**

1. Closeness to the Prophet ﷺ

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

“The closest of people to me on the Day of Judgment will be those who send the most blessings upon me.”
(Tirmidhi)

And therefore, the more we recite Darood e Ibrahimi, the closer we will be to the Prophet ﷺ in the Afterlife.

2. Forgiveness of Sins

The Hadith also teaches that the person who sends blessings to the Prophet once, Allah sends ten blessings to the person. In addition, ten sins are washed away and ten merits are accrued. (Sahih Muslim)

3. Accepted Duas

Sending Darood before and after a dua increases chances of it being accepted. The scholars suggest that it is always good to start and conclude duas with Darood e Ibrahimi.

Angels also pray on our behalf when we send Darood. The mercy of Allah is around the person who remembers his Prophet ﷺ.

Most Muslims have testified that they feel easy, comfortable, and at peace after reciting Darood e Ibrahimi, particularly, when they are undergoing stressful periods.

When to Recite Darood e Ibrahimi

1. During Salah (Namaz)

Darood e Ibrahimi is a mandatory part of the Tashahhud (last sitting) in every Salah.

Without it, the prayer is not complete.
So, Muslims recite it at least five times a day.

2. On Fridays

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ encouraged reciting Darood often on Fridays.

He said, “Send more blessings upon me on the day and night of Friday.”

3. While Making Dua

Start and end your dua with Darood e Ibrahimi to make your dua powerful. This brings in barakah (blessings) and opens the gates of acceptability.
