Surah Al Mudassir With English Translations

یٰۤاَیُّهَا الْمُدَّثِّرُ(1)

O you wrapped in garments, (1)

قُمْ فَاَنْذِرْ(2)

Arise and warn. (2)

وَ رَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ(3)

And your Lord glorify. (3)

وَ ثِیَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ(4)

And your clothing purify. (4)

وَ الرُّجْزَ فَاهْجُرْ(5)

And uncleanliness avoid. (5)

وَ لَا تَمْنُنْ تَسْتَكْثِرُ(6)

And do not confer favor to seek [more] reward. (6)

وَ لِرَبِّكَ فَاصْبِرْﭤ(7)

But for your Lord be patient. (7)

فَاِذَا نُقِرَ فِی النَّاقُوْرِ(8)

For when the trumpet is blown, (8)

فَذٰلِكَ یَوْمَىٕذٍ یَّوْمٌ عَسِیْرٌ(9)

That Day will be a difficult day (9)

عَلَى الْكٰفِرِیْنَ غَیْرُ یَسِیْرٍ(10)

For the disbelievers, not easy. (10)

ذَرْنِیْ وَ مَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِیْدًا(11)

Leave Me with him whom I created alone (11)

وَّ جَعَلْتُ لَهٗ مَالًا مَّمْدُوْدًا(12)

And to whom I granted extensive wealth (12)

وَّ بَنِیْنَ شُهُوْدًا(13)

And children present [with him] (13)

وَّ مَهَّدْتُّ لَهٗ تَمْهِیْدًا(14)

And spread [everything] before him in ease. (14)

ثُمَّ یَطْمَعُ اَنْ اَزِیْدَ(15)

Then he desires that I should increase [it] for him further. (15)

كَلَّاؕ-اِنَّهٗ كَانَ لِاٰیٰتِنَا عَنِیْدًاﭤ(16)

No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. (16)

سَاُرْهِقُهٗ صَعُوْدًاﭤ(17)

I will burden him with a difficult ascent. (17)

اِنَّهٗ فَكَّرَ وَ قَدَّرَ(18)

Indeed, he thought and deliberated; (18)

فَقُتِلَ كَیْفَ قَدَّرَ(19)

So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. (19)

ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَیْفَ قَدَّرَ(20)

Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. (20)

ثُمَّ نَظَرَ(21)

Then he looked; (21)

ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَ بَسَرَ(22)

Then he frowned and scowled; (22)

ثُمَّ اَدْبَرَ وَ اسْتَكْبَرَ(23)

Then he turned his back and was arrogant. (23)

فَقَالَ اِنْ هٰذَاۤ اِلَّا سِحْرٌ یُّؤْثَرُ(24)

And said, "This is not but magic passed down [from others]. (24)

اِنْ هٰذَاۤ اِلَّا قَوْلُ الْبَشَرِﭤ(25)

This is not but the word of a human being." (25)

سَاُصْلِیْهِ سَقَرَ(26)

I will drive him into Saqar. (26)

وَ مَاۤ اَدْرٰىكَ مَا سَقَرُﭤ(27)

And what can make you know what is Saqar? (27)

لَا تُبْقِیْ وَ لَا تَذَرُ(28)

It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [untouched]. (28)

لَوَّاحَةٌ لِّلْبَشَرِ(29)

Blackening the skins. (29)

عَلَیْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَﭤ(30)

Over it are nineteen [angels]. (30)

وَ مَا جَعَلْنَاۤ اَصْحٰبَ النَّارِ اِلَّا مَلٰٓىٕكَةً۪-وَّ مَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ اِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِّلَّذِیْنَ كَفَرُوْاۙ-لِیَسْتَیْقِنَ الَّذِیْنَ اُوْتُوا الْكِتٰبَ وَ یَزْدَادَ الَّذِیْنَ اٰمَنُوْۤا اِیْمَانًا وَّ لَا یَرْتَابَ الَّذِیْنَ اُوْتُوا الْكِتٰبَ وَ الْمُؤْمِنُوْنَۙ-وَ لِیَقُوْلَ الَّذِیْنَ فِیْ قُلُوْبِهِمْ مَّرَضٌ وَّ الْكٰفِرُوْنَ مَا ذَاۤ اَرَادَ اللّٰهُ بِهٰذَا مَثَلًاؕ-كَذٰلِكَ یُضِلُّ اللّٰهُ مَنْ یَّشَآءُ وَ یَهْدِیْ مَنْ یَّشَآءُؕ-وَ مَا یَعْلَمُ جُنُوْدَ رَبِّكَ اِلَّا هُوَؕ-وَ مَا هِیَ اِلَّا ذِكْرٰى لِلْبَشَرِ(31)

And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels, and We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture may be convinced and those who have believed may increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers may not doubt - and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers may say, "What does Allah intend by this example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And this is not but a reminder for mankind. (31)

كَلَّا وَ الْقَمَرِ(32)

No! By the moon (32)

وَ الَّیْلِ اِذْ اَدْبَرَ(33)

And [by] the night when it departs (33)

وَ الصُّبْحِ اِذَاۤ اَسْفَرَ(34)

And [by] the dawn when it brightens, (34)

اِنَّهَا لَاِحْدَى الْكُبَرِ(35)

Indeed, it is of the greatest [afflictions] (35)

نَذِیْرًا لِّلْبَشَرِ(36)

As a warner to mankind - (36)

لِمَنْ شَآءَ مِنْكُمْ اَنْ یَّتَقَدَّمَ اَوْ یَتَاَخَّرَﭤ(37)

For whoever wills among you to proceed or to remain behind. (37)

كُلُّ نَفْسٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِیْنَةٌ(38)

Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained. (38)

اِلَّاۤ اَصْحٰبَ الْیَمِیْنِ(39)

Except the companions of the right, (39)

فِیْ جَنّٰتٍﰈ یَتَسَآءَلُوْنَ(40)

[They will be] in gardens, questioning each other (40)

عَنِ الْمُجْرِمِیْنَ(41)

About the criminals, (41)

مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِیْ سَقَرَ(42)

"[Asking], "What put you into Saqar?" (42)

قَالُوْا لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ الْمُصَلِّیْنَ(43)

They will say, "We were not of those who prayed, (43)

وَ لَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ الْمِسْكِیْنَ(44)

Nor did we used to feed the poor. (44)

وَ كُنَّا نَخُوْضُ مَعَ الْخَآىٕضِیْنَ(45)

And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it], (45)

وَ كُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِیَوْمِ الدِّیْنِ(46)

And we used to deny the Day of Recompense (46)

حَتّٰۤى اَتٰىنَا الْیَقِیْنُﭤ(47)

Until there came to us the certainty [i.e., death]." (47)

فَمَا تَنْفَعُهُمْ شَفَاعَةُ الشّٰفِعِیْنَﭤ(48)

So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors. (48)

فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ التَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِیْنَ(49)

Then what is [the matter] with them that they turn away from the reminder (49)

كَاَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُّسْتَنْفِرَةٌ(50)

As if they were startled donkeys (50)

فَرَّتْ مِنْ قَسْوَرَةٍﭤ(51)

Fleeing from a lion? (51)

بَلْ یُرِیْدُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ اَنْ یُّؤْتٰى صُحُفًا مُّنَشَّرَةً(52)

Rather, every person among them desires that he be given spread sheets. (52)

كَلَّاؕ-بَلْ لَّا یَخَافُوْنَ الْاٰخِرَةَﭤ(53)

No! But they do not fear the Hereafter. (53)

كَلَّاۤ اِنَّهٗ تَذْكِرَةٌ(54)

No! Indeed, it is a reminder. (54)

فَمَنْ شَآءَ ذَكَرَهٗﭤ(55)

So whoever wills may remember it. (55)

وَ مَا یَذْكُرُوْنَ اِلَّاۤ اَنْ یَّشَآءَ اللّٰهُؕ-هُوَ اَهْلُ التَّقْوٰى وَ اَهْلُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ(56)

And they will not remember unless Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and worthy of [granting] forgiveness. (56)
