Surah Al Qiyamah With English Translations

لَاۤ اُقْسِمُ بِیَوْمِ الْقِیٰمَةِ(1)

I do not swear by the Day of Resurrection (1)

وَ لَاۤ اُقْسِمُ بِالنَّفْسِ اللَّوَّامَةِﭤ(2)

Nor do I swear by the blaming soul [or conscience]. (2)

اَیَحْسَبُ الْاِنْسَانُ اَلَّنْ نَّجْمَعَ عِظَامَهٗﭤ(3)

Does man think that We will not assemble his bones? (3)

بَلٰى قٰدِرِیْنَ عَلٰۤى اَنْ نُّسَوِّیَ بَنَانَهٗ(4)

Yes. [We are] able to put together in perfect order the tips of his fingers. (4)

بَلْ یُرِیْدُ الْاِنْسَانُ لِیَفْجُرَ اَمَامَهٗ(5)

But man desires to continue in sin. (5)

یَسْــٴَـلُ اَیَّانَ یَوْمُ الْقِیٰمَةِﭤ(6)

He asks, "When is the Day of Resurrection?" (6)

فَاِذَا بَرِقَ الْبَصَرُ(7)

So when vision is dazzled (7)

وَ خَسَفَ الْقَمَرُ(8)

And the moon darkens (8)

وَ جُمِـعَ الشَّمْسُ وَ الْقَمَرُ(9)

And the sun and the moon are joined, (9)

یَقُوْلُ الْاِنْسَانُ یَوْمَىٕذٍ اَیْنَ الْمَفَرُّ(10)

Man will say on that Day, "Where is the escape?" (10)

كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَﭤ(11)

No! There is no refuge. (11)

اِلٰى رَبِّكَ یَوْمَىٕذِ ﹰالْمُسْتَقَرُّﭤ(12)

To your Lord, that Day, is the [place of] settlement. (12)

یُنَبَّؤُا الْاِنْسَانُ یَوْمَىٕذٍۭ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَ اَخَّرَﭤ(13)

Man will be informed that Day of what he sent ahead and what he left behind. (13)

بَلِ الْاِنْسَانُ عَلٰى نَفْسِهٖ بَصِیْرَةٌ(14)

Rather, man, against himself, will be a witness, (14)

وَّ لَوْ اَلْقٰى مَعَاذِیْرَهٗﭤ(15)

Even if he presents his excuses. (15)

لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهٖ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهٖﭤ(16)

Move not your tongue with it, [O Muhammad], to hasten with it. (16)

اِنَّ عَلَیْنَا جَمْعَهٗ وَ قُرْاٰنَهٗ(17)

Indeed, upon Us is its collection and [its] recitation. (17)

فَاِذَا قَرَاْنٰهُ فَاتَّبِـعْ قُرْاٰنَهٗ(18)

So when We have recited it [through Gabriel], then follow its recitation. (18)

ثُمَّ اِنَّ عَلَیْنَا بَیَانَهٗﭤ(19)

Then upon Us is its clarification [to you]. (19)

كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّوْنَ الْعَاجِلَةَ(20)

No! But you love the immediate [world] (20)

وَ تَذَرُوْنَ الْاٰخِرَةَﭤ(21)

And leave the Hereafter. (21)

وُجُوْهٌ یَّوْمَىٕذٍ نَّاضِرَةٌ(22)

[Some] faces, that Day, will be radiant, (22)

اِلٰى رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌ(23)

Looking at their Lord. (23)

وَ وُجُوْهٌ یَّوْمَىٕذٍۭ بَاسِرَةٌ(24)

And [some] faces, that Day, will be gloomy, (24)

تَظُنُّ اَنْ یُّفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌﭤ(25)

Expecting that there will be done to them [something of] catastrophe. (25)

كَلَّاۤ اِذَا بَلَغَتِ التَّرَاقِیَ(26)

No! When [the soul] has reached the collarbones (26)

وَ قِیْلَ مَنْٚ-رَاقٍ(27)

And it is said, "Who will ascend [with it]?" (27)

وَّ ظَنَّ اَنَّهُ الْفِرَاقُ(28)

And he is certain that it is the [time of] separation, (28)

وَ الْتَفَّتِ السَّاقُ بِالسَّاقِ(29)

And the leg is wound about the leg [in death], (29)

اِلٰى رَبِّكَ یَوْمَىٕذِ-ﹰالْمَسَاقُ(30)

To your Lord, that Day, will be the procession. (30)

فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَ لَا صَلّٰى(31)

For he had neither believed nor prayed. (31)

وَ لٰـكِنْ كَذَّبَ وَ تَوَلّٰى(32)

But [instead], he denied and turned away. (32)

ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ اِلٰۤى اَهْلِهٖ یَتَمَطّٰىﭤ(33)

And [then] he went to his family, swaggering. (33)

اَوْلٰى لَكَ فَاَوْلٰى(34)

Woe to you, and woe! (34)

ثُمَّ اَوْلٰى لَكَ فَاَوْلٰىﭤ(35)

Then woe to you, and woe! (35)

اَیَحْسَبُ الْاِنْسَانُ اَنْ یُّتْرَكَ سُدًىﭤ(36)

Does man think that he will be left neglected? (36)

اَلَمْ یَكُ نُطْفَةً مِّنْ مَّنِیٍّ یُّمْنٰى(37)

Was he not a sperm-drop from semen emitted? (37)

ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقَ فَسَوّٰى(38)

Then he was a clinging clot; then [Allah] created [him] and proportioned [him]. (38)

فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ الزَّوْجَیْنِ الذَّكَرَ وَ الْاُنْثٰىﭤ(39)

And made of him two mates, the male and the female. (39)

اَلَیْسَ ذٰلِكَ بِقٰدِرٍ عَلٰۤى اَنْ یُّحْیِﰯ الْمَوْتٰى(40)

Is not that [Creator] able to give life to the dead? (40)
