About what are they asking one another? (1)

About the great news - (2)

That over which they are in disagreement. (3)

No! They will soon know. (4)

Then no! They will soon know. (5)

Have We not made the earth a resting place? (6)

And the mountains as pegs? (7)

And We created you in pairs (8)

And made your sleep [a means for] rest (9)

And made the night as clothing (10)

And made the day for livelihood. (11)

And We constructed above you seven heavens firm (12)

And made [therein] a burning lamp. (13)

And We have sent down from the rain-bearing clouds abundant water (14)

That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation (15)

And gardens of dense foliage. (16)

Indeed, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, (17)

The Day the Horn will be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes. (18)

And the heaven will be opened and will become gates. (19)

And the mountains will be moved and will become as a mirage. (20)

Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait (21)

For the transgressors, a place of return, (22)

In which they will remain for ages [unending]. (23)

They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink (24)

Except scalding water and a fluid [dark and] foul-smelling - (25)

A recompense corresponding [to their evil deeds]. (26)

Indeed, they never expected an account (27)

And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. (28)

And everything We have recorded in a book. (29)

[So it will be said], "Taste [the punishment], for We will not increase you except in torment." (30)

Indeed, for the righteous is attainment [of Paradise] - (31)

Gardens and grapevines (32)

And full-breasted [maidens] of equal age (33)

And a full cup. (34)

They will not hear therein ill speech or falsehood - (35)

A reward from your Lord, a gift [deemed] sufficient - (36)

The Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, the Most Compassionate. They possess not from Him [permission for] speech, (37)

The Day the Spirit and the angels will stand in rows; they will not speak except for one whom the Most Compassionate permits, and he will say what is correct. (38)

That is the True Day; so whoever wills may take to his Lord a return. (39)

Indeed, We have warned you of a near punishment on the Day when a man will observe what his hands have put forth and the disbeliever will say, "Oh, would that I were dust!" (40)
